The Data Bank must charge a fee to recover its operating costs, according to Federal law. The Data Bank does not receive Federal appropriations; i.e., Federal taxes do not support the Data Bank. Payment is safe and secure and is done through major credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express). Any changes to fees are announced by the Secretary of HHS in the Federal Register.
Fees for Searching for Reports
Practitioners, providers, and suppliers can access the Data Bank to obtain information on themselves or their practitioner organization at any time. Requests from individuals and organizations are automatically sent to both the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) and the Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB) to ensure full disclosure.
Fees for searching for reports must be paid for by credit card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express). The act of accessing the Data Bank to search for reports on yourself is considered an agreement to pay the associated fee. A fee is assessed when the Data Bank processes the request, whether or not there is information on file about you.
The fee for a request on yourself or your organization is $8.00 per request for each Data Bank. All requests are sent to both the NPDB and HIPDB and are assessed a total fee of $16.00. Refer to Table 1 for a list of fees.
Request Type | NPDB | HIPDB | Total Assessed Fee |
---|---|---|---|
Individual | $8.00 | $8.00 | $16.00 |
Organizational | $8.00 | $8.00 | $16.00 |
